I am originally from Aberdeen, moved to Dundee in 2005 and haven't looked back. Now I co-own Tayberry Gallery in Perth with my buddy Sarah Spalding who makes amazing jewellery! I split my time between the gallery and working in my workshop, which I share with my other buddy, Sarah's sister Islay Spalding who is also an awesome jeweller! Islay and I make Man Pins together in our workshop, to follow what we are up to check out our instagram @pinsformen.
I graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone in 2009 with a BDes Hons in Interior and Environmental Design. I was one part of TWIG for the following few years, designing and making furniture and lighting. Our largest project was kitting out the Parlour Cafe in Dundee with tables and wall lights. Check them out next time you're in Dundee. The food is excellent!
In 2012, when I joined Sarah at Tayberry, I started designing and making on my own. I was inspired by an image on Instagram to try spooncarving. I did one, not very well, but was immediately hooked. I love that each piece of wood is totally different. Every time I carve in to a piece I am always amazed at the way the grain changes and warps as it's carved in to. I have gone through a number of different designs and with practice improved my technique and am now ready to launch my best spoons yet! Each one is finished to perfection.
Recently I have been making butter knives and a new range of serving boards called Bowly Boards. These will be in the shop in the New Year :)
